About this evidence brief

A joint submission from the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction and Greo Evidence Insights to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage in support of Bill S-211, and Act respecting a national framework on sports betting advertising.

It recommends that the committee:

  • Advance Bill S-211;
  • Recognize that sports betting advertising operates within a broader online gambling ecosystem, including online casino products, and consider measures to address all online gambling advertising and promotion; and
  • Ensure that the framework places public health at its centre, with the protection of children and youth as a central priority, alongside young adults, people in recovery, people affected by others’ gambling and other populations at elevated risk.

This version includes additional organizations and individuals who offered their support after the Committee submission deadline (October 8), as well as minor grammar and copy updates. The integrity and messaging of the document were not altered.
