Prescription Opioids (Canadian Drug Summary)


Summarizes data on the use of prescription opioids, including information harms and effects, legal status, hospitalization and access to treatment. As of the date of the summary (Sept. 2017), opioid pain relievers are used by 13% of the population, down from 15% in 2013. Hospitalizations due to opioid poisoning have been increasing and there were over 2,800 opioid-related deaths in 2018.
