Cannabis Legalization: Cannabis for Medical Purposes

Includes findings from our November 2022 submission to the federal government’s public consultation on cannabis legalization, A Public Health Perspective on Cannabis Legalization and Regulation in Canada. Reviews status of cannabis for medical purposes as of January 2023 and includes related findings from the 2021 Canadian Alcohol and Drug Survey by Statistics Canada. Addresses the growing interest in cannabis for potential health benefits and the lack of evidence proving efficacy. Policy considerations are suggested, such as reviewing the cannabis medical access program and protecting the health and safety of people who use cannabis for medical purposes.
