Introducing the World’s First Lower-Risk Gambling Guidelines

Event information

Dates: September 15, 2021

About this event

Problem gambling has been recognized as a significant public health issue. Until now, there were no evidence-informed guidelines to help people who gamble do so in a way that reduces their risk of experiencing harms related to gambling.

The newly developed Lower-Risk Gambling Guidelines (LRGGs) provide consistent, evidence-informed advice and messaging about how to gamble in a lower-risk manner.

These guidelines are intended to assist a wide variety of audiences, including anyone who gambles or has friends or family who gamble and those developing training materials, capacity-building programs or awareness campaigns aimed at identifying and preventing harms related to gambling.

What Are the Lower-Risk Gambling Guideline?

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction is hosting a webinar, Introducing the Lower-Risk Gambling Guidelines, on September 15, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 (EDT).

Hear from members of the scientific working group behind the development of the first large-scale, international project to develop lower-risk gambling guidelines.

Those who attend the webinar will learn about:

  • The three recommendations to reduce the risk of experiencing harms from gambling;
  • Special risk populations; and
  • Contextual factors and other health messages for gambling in a lower-risk manner.
